- 1 cup yellow split peas
- 3 cup water
- 1 yellow onion
- 2 cloves garlic
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 whole lemon juice
Toppings
- olive oil
- capers
- fresh dill
- chili flakes
- finely chopped red onion optional
Rinse your yellow split peas thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear. This step ensures a smoother, cleaner flavor in the final dish.
Add the rinsed split peas to the pot, add chopped onion, garlic cloves, olive oil, water and salt. Let the peas simmer gently for 30–40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Once the peas are tender and most of the liquid is absorbed, remove the pot from heat. Let it cool slightly, then add lemon juice and blend with an immersion blender until silky.
Spoon the creamy fava onto a serving plate. Drizzle with olive oil and top with red onion slices, capers, chili flakes and fresh dil for a vibrant finish. Serve at room temperature for the best flavor. Enjoy!
