This fresh plum and tomato salad might sound like a questionable combination to try, but just give this recipe a try and I guarantee you’ll be convinced. Totally tasty, juicy, sweet and tangy, topped with toasted crunchy sesame seeds this salad is lifted to the whole new level. This plum and tomato salad is super simple to make and requires just couple ingredients.
Ingredients for plum and tomato salad
Since the salad only has a few ingredients, look for the best tomatoes you can find. When shopping, look for tomatoes that are brightly colored, heavy for their size, and firm but juicy. Good cherry, grape, vine, or heirloom tomatoes will work, too. Feel free to use the best tomatoes you can find, regardless of variety. Tomatoes are low in calories, low in fat, and high in vitamins A, C, and K. They’re also known for containing the antioxidant lycopene, a natural pigment that gives tomatoes their signature red color.
You are also going to need good ripe plums. While they are in season they are truly amazing and delicious. I used my own grown plums from my garden, but you can find plums in the supermarket or in farmers market.
Fresh greens give most of the flavour to this salad. I like to pair here a handful of fresh parsley and basil. They both work so weel in this salad as it’s perfect flavour combination with plums and tomatoes. You can aslo try using coriander or fresh oregano here.
Sesame seeds are also a star in this beautiful salad. Make sure you toast them before adding to the salad as it gives this earthy nutty flavour. They are crunchy and so so delicious.
You only need a few minutes to make balsamic tomato and plum salad, so it’s easy to throw together for a barbecue or a weeknight summer dinner. It also packs well for a picnic or meal on the go, and can be made ahead of time and stashed in the fridge until serving time.
